FAQ

Here’s a place where we answer questions we’ve been asked. Updates will be forthcoming as we get more questions (beyond the two we’ve already gotten).

What is the Criterion Collection?

The Criterion Collection is “a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films on home video” according to their website. I currently own over 230 films issued by the Criterion Collection on DVD or blu-ray. I also have a subscription to their amazing streaming service, the Criterion Channel.

Are all the Criterion movies you watch also streaming on the Criterion Chanel?

Not all the Criterion films are streaming on Criterion Channel due to the streaming rights not being available. However, the streaming service has films that aren’t distributed by Criterion on disc. Michael’s gift to me includes watching both the discs and the streaming service. If I know the movie is available to stream I’ll include a link to the Criterion Channel page with the review.

Are you employed by Criterion?

No. I’m just a super huge mega fan of theirs. If they’d like to offer me a job, I guuuuueeeeessssss I’d be willing to entertain offers….

How much do Criterion movies cost?

Go look it up yourself, I just said I don’t work for them.

How much does a subscription to the Criterion Channel cost?

For fuck’s sake, I don’t work for them! When they hire me, I’ll tell you how much things cost! (Or you can visit their subscription page here.)

Will you review movies that aren’t Criterion movies?

Right now, we’re going to focus on the films in the Criterion Collection. I’ve noticed a lot of people aren’t familiar with these films (including Michael), and they are some of the best films that have ever been created in the history of cinema. I might get to a point where I’ll include reviews of other films (or even plays, musicals, TV shows, etc.), but right now I’m keeping the focus on the Criterion films.

But you should review Cats. I want to see what you guys will say about Cats! And film it!

No. I categorically refuse. I know it’s funny to watch my face get all red and my veins to start popping and my stream-of-consciousness yelling begin to consist of two words punctuated by sputtering and scrunting (stifled screaming/grunting), but I refuse to waste my time on something I knew would be horrendous trash when it was announced as being in development, much less after it was released to horrific reactions from both critics and audiences.

Michael has also recommended (a.k.a. forbidden me by Hungarian volume talking) I stop wasting any more time and energy on hating Cats. He’s probably right to do so… I can feel the rage building as I type this….
